2018’s Data Viz Conferences All Wrapped Up

This year’s conference season is drawing to a close, and so an opportunity to collate the vast array of resources that came from them, much of which is publicly accessible.

In 2016 I was beginning to get into Tableau, and towards the end of that year began to notice people discussing something called “Tableau Conference” (how little I knew). There have been plenty of retrospectives dedicated to Tableau Conferences this year, both from Europe and the US, and Tableau’s blog has collated many of them here.

In 2018 I began to broaden my horizons a little. While fortunate enough to attend TC18 in New Orleans, I also had the great pleasure of attending the European Data Journalism Conference – otherwise known as DataJConf – and been following discussions and content from various other related events throughout the year. At the time of TC18, Jonathan Schwabish was at another event called IEEE VIS, and tweeted thus:

Subsequently, Neil Richards blogged that he intends to stay connected with the wider data visualisation community, and we lamented the lack of a platform to share inspiration from across the various events that were taking place. In the absence of any such platform, this blog is an attempt to at least collate resources relating to those events in one place, signposting you to video content and websites to help broaden our collective data visualisation horizons.

This is a strong, but admittedly not exhaustive, list of product-agnostic data visualisation events from 2018, shown in chronological order of when they took place in 2018, along with links to their video content where available. Some have already scheduled their 2019 dates, too, which are listed where known. If you are aware of other events worth cataloguing here, please do suggest them and I will gladly add them in.
