Almost seventy per cent of the world’s youth are using the Internet

Covid-19 has laid bare the fact that Internet access is a dire necessity rather than a nice-to-have luxury, essential for work, education and our daily lives in general.

The latest ITU data show that the pandemic has significantly accelerated uptake of the Internet. While in 2018 less than half of the world’s population was using the Internet, by the end of 2021 this has grown to an estimated 4.9 billion people, or 62.5 per cent of the world population.

Nevertheless, this still leaves 2.9 billion people who do not benefit from the many benefits offered by an Internet connection.
